How to get from Kuala Lumpur to Rawa Island
Getting to Alang's Rawa from Kuala Lumpur is straightforward.
1. Travel from Kuala Lumpur to Mersing
The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Mersing takes approximately 4–5 hours by road, depending on traffic and road conditions.
You can drive yourself or arrange a private transfer. Buses also operate from Kuala Lumpur to Mersing.
The usual driving route takes you east from Kuala Lumpur via the North-South Expressway, continuing towards Mersing.
2. Meet us at Mersing
Once you reach Mersing, your island journey is almost complete.
Our team will provide the directions and timing you need before your stay.
3. Take the boat to Rawa
From Mersing jetty, it's just a 25-minute ride on one of our private speedboats straight to Alang's Rawa.
Your return speedboat transfers between Mersing and the island are included in your package.
Then you're here.
No airport. No flight. No second long transfer.
Just the South China Sea.
How long does it take from Kuala Lumpur to Rawa Island?
Allow approximately 4–5 hours to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Mersing, followed by a 25-minute speedboat crossing to Rawa Island.
The total journey will vary depending on traffic, road conditions and boat conditions, so allow plenty of time and treat the journey as part of the escape.

Rawa Island for couples
For couples, Rawa offers something very different from a city break.
Trade Kuala Lumpur traffic for warm water and bare feet.
Spend the morning swimming or snorkelling, have lunch by the sea, then watch the island settle into evening.
The weekdays are particularly quiet, while weekends bring a little more atmosphere, with beachside BBQs, cocktails and lanterns lighting up the sand.
Rawa Island for groups and friends
Rawa works particularly well for groups who want to get away together without the formality of a large resort.
With only twelve rooms on the island, the experience feels personal and relaxed.
For larger groups, the Big A-Frame Group accommodates 6–12 people, while neighbouring Big A-Frames can also work well for friends travelling together.

When is the best time to visit Rawa Island?
Alang's Rawa operates seasonally, with the current season running from March to November.
Weekdays tend to be quieter and more peaceful, while weekends have a little more energy.
If you're looking for a particularly relaxed escape, a weekday stay can be a great option.
How long should you stay?
For a quick escape from Kuala Lumpur, two nights is the perfect starting point.
Three nights gives you more time to slow down and enjoy the island without feeling like you're watching the clock.
